Vulcan III Plate Carrier
Vulcan III Plate Carrier
Couldn't load pickup availability
Third-generation modular plate carrier with ZenTubes quick-release hardware at the shoulders and cummerbund, separate soft- and hard-armor compartments, extensive MOLLE/PALS, and compatibility with Zentauron's modular front-flap and load-transfer systems.
The Vulcan III represents Zentauron's current evolution of the classic Vulcan plate carrier platform.
Its biggest change is the integration of ZenTubes based on ROC-style quick-release buckles at both the shoulder straps and cummerbund. The system allows the carrier to be opened quickly for donning, doffing, or emergency access.
Separate compartments for soft and hard ballistic inserts allow the carrier to be configured around the appropriate armor package, while MOLLE/PALS surfaces across the front, rear, and cummerbund provide extensive space for modular equipment.
ZenTubes Quick-Release System
The Vulcan III uses ZenTubes quick-release hardware at:
- Both shoulder straps
- Both sides of the cummerbund
This gives the carrier a built-in quick-release capability without requiring a separate cable-release system.
The system can be useful for:
- Rapid donning and removal
- Emergency access
- Medical access to the wearer
- Quickly opening one side of the carrier
- Reconfiguring the carrier without repeatedly opening large hook-and-loop panels
Rubberized pull elements provide a secure gripping surface.
Separate Soft & Hard Armor Compartments
The front and rear plate bags contain separate compartments for soft and hard ballistic inserts.
This allows the armor components to remain independently positioned rather than occupying a single shared sleeve.
According to Zentauron, the carrier is designed around ballistic components used in German service configurations.
The exact dimensions and compatibility of any specific armor insert should be verified before use.
Front Plate Bag
The upper exterior section of the front plate bag provides:
4 rows × 3 MOLLE/PALS attachment channels with loop surface
This area can support:
- ID patches
- IR identification patches
- Cable routing
- Small accessories
Additional MOLLE/PALS below provides mounting space for:
- Magazine pouches
- Utility pouches
- Medical equipment
- Other compatible accessories
Vertical webbing channels on both sides provide additional routing and retention points for cables or similar equipment.
3D Mesh Body-Side Padding
The body-facing side of the plate bag is lined with 3D mesh.
This helps provide:
- Additional cushioning
- Improved airflow
- Separation between the carrier and body
Optional additional padding can be added when more cushioning is desired.
Hard Armor Retention
The hard-armor compartment includes a 50 mm / approximately 2 in retention strap to help secure the plate inside the carrier.
The source specifically references compatibility with SK4 hard armor.
SK4 is a German ballistic classification and should not be treated as interchangeable with a U.S. NIJ armor level.
Soft Armor Compartment
A separate internal sleeve accepts compatible soft armor or non-ballistic inserts.
The compartment closes with hook-and-loop to keep the insert positioned inside the plate bag.
Modular Front-Flap Interface
The Vulcan III can be configured with optional Zentauron front panels including:
- V3 MOLLE Flap
- V3 Magazine Flap
These attach through dedicated hook-and-loop-equipped straps.
The carrier can also support alternative placard-style attachment concepts using compatible hardware such as:
- QASM-style buckles
- G-Hooks
This allows front configurations to be changed without rebuilding the complete carrier setup.
Rear Plate Bag
The rear plate bag uses the same separated hard- and soft-armor concept as the front.
Additional features include:
- Upper MOLLE/PALS with loop surface
- Vertical equipment-routing webbing
- Additional padding near the shoulder area
- Rear cummerbund mounting interface
- Load-transfer interface
Adjustable Rear Cummerbund System
The cummerbund connects to horizontal MOLLE-style webbing on the rear plate bag and is retained using elastic cord.
Adjustment is made through the cummerbund webbing and rear carrier interface.
Zentauron specifies approximately:
2 × 4.7 in / 2 × 12 cm of adjustment range
at the rear mounting system.
The horizontal webbing can also provide additional attachment points for compatible equipment.
Load-Transfer Compatibility
The rear plate bag includes a dedicated hook-and-loop interface for the Zentauron Load Transfer Adapter.
This allows the Vulcan III to integrate with compatible lower load-bearing systems such as:
- Zentauron Modular Battle Belt
- German MOBAST system
- Selected compatible LHT / Lindnerhof belt systems
When used with the dedicated load-transfer adapter, part of the carrier load can be redirected toward the belt and hips.
Modular Cummerbund
The exterior of the cummerbund provides:
7 × 3 MOLLE/PALS attachment positions
for equipment such as:
- IFAK pouches
- Utility pouches
- Radio equipment
- Other compatible MOLLE accessories
The inside of the cummerbund can accommodate compatible soft ballistic inserts or selected equipment depending on configuration.
Adjustable Shoulder Straps
The shoulder straps connect to the rear plate bag and use continuously adjustable hook-and-loop sections for fitting.
They also serve as attachment points for compatible accessories including:
- Shoulder pads
- Upper-arm protection
- Neck protection
- Cable routing
- Other carrier accessories
Optional Zentauron shoulder pads can be added to increase cushioning.
Lower-Abdomen & Front-Pouch Interface
The hook-and-loop interface at the lower front of the carrier can be used to mount compatible accessories such as:
- Lower-abdomen protection
- Dangler / front pouches
- Other hook-and-loop-mounted accessories
The interface is positioned to keep the gap between the torso armor and lower-mounted equipment as small as practical.
Size Options
Standard Cummerbund
Approximate abdominal circumference range without ballistic inserts:
41.3–52.0 in / 105–132 cm
Short Cummerbund
Approximate abdominal circumference range without ballistic inserts:
35.4–46.5 in / 90–118 cm
Installing soft and hard armor can reduce the usable circumference by up to approximately:
3.9 in / 10 cm
Actual fit depends on armor thickness, clothing, and equipment configuration.

Ballistic Protection Notice
The Vulcan III is an armor carrier and does not provide ballistic protection by itself.
Ballistic performance depends entirely on the certified soft- and hard-armor inserts installed in the carrier, including their:
- Protection rating
- Dimensions
- Condition
- Placement
- Compatibility with the carrier
German SK classifications and U.S. NIJ protection levels are different standards and should not be treated as equivalent without specific certification data.
Mission Frontline Take
The Vulcan III is the point where Zentauron's carrier system becomes much more than a simple plate bag.
The major advantage is the combination of quick-release hardware, separated armor compartments, modular front panels, cummerbund expansion, and the load-transfer interface.
For lighter setups, some of those features may be unnecessary. But once the carrier is configured with armor, magazines, radio equipment, medical gear, and other accessories, the ability to distribute weight and change front-panel configurations becomes much more valuable.
The ZenTubes system is also a meaningful upgrade over a carrier that relies entirely on conventional hook-and-loop closure. It makes routine access easier while also providing an emergency-release capability.
For users building a complete Zentauron ecosystem around the Vulcan III, Modular Battle Belt, V3 flaps, ballistic accessories, and load-transfer system, this is the central component that ties those systems together.
