Couldn't load pickup availability
Heavy-load modular rucksack with up to 55 liters of main-pack capacity, a removable 10-liter daypack lid, extensive MOLLE expansion, and an external frame designed for demanding loads.
The Zentauron Sentinel is a professional external-frame rucksack built for users who need to carry substantial equipment over extended distances.
The expandable main compartment provides approximately 40–55 liters / 2,441–3,356 cu in, while the removable lid adds another 10 liters / 610 cu in of storage and converts into an independent small backpack.
At maximum main-pack volume, the Sentinel therefore provides approximately:
65 L / 3,966 cu in total base capacity
The external frame is designed around heavy-load carriage and is especially useful when the pack is worn together with body armor, where conventional internal-frame backpacks can interfere with the lower edge of a plate carrier or protective vest.
Made in Germany.
Heavy-Load External Frame
The Sentinel is designed for substantial loads in the approximately:
55–88 lb / 25–40 kg range
The external polymer frame stiffens the back of the pack over approximately:
19.7 in / 50 cm
and helps transfer weight away from the shoulders and toward the padded hip belt.
The frame also creates additional space between the backpack and the user's back.
This provides two major advantages:
- Improved airflow and reduced direct back contact
- Better compatibility with plate carriers and protective vests
When worn over armor, the frame helps prevent the backpack from resting directly against the lower edges of the protective plates.
40–55L Expandable Main Compartment
The main pack uses an adjustable roll-top design that provides approximately:
40–55 L / 2,441–3,356 cu in
depending on how tightly the top is rolled and compressed.
This allows the Sentinel to adapt to significantly different load volumes without requiring a second backpack.
Typical equipment can include:
- Clothing layers
- Sleeping equipment
- Food and rations
- Hydration
- Communication equipment
- Tools
- Field equipment
- Outdoor and trekking gear
- Mission-specific supplies
Dual-Access Top & Front Loader
The Sentinel can be accessed through both the top and the front.
This gives the user two different ways to reach the load depending on what is needed.
Roll-Top Access
The upper opening uses a roll-top closure located underneath the removable lid.
The roll-top design allows:
- Adjustable pack volume
- Load compression
- Improved load stability
- Additional protection against dust and moisture
The roll-top should not be considered a fully waterproof dry-bag closure, but it provides better environmental protection than a completely open drawstring design.
Large Front Access
A second opening on the front allows direct access to equipment located deeper inside the pack.
The approximately:
7.1 × 19.7 in / 18 × 50 cm
front opening uses a dual zipper and can be opened partially or extensively as required.
This allows equipment from the lower portion of the backpack to be retrieved without unloading everything packed above it.
Internal Front Organizer Compartment
The inside of the front-access panel features a large zippered storage compartment covering much of the panel.
This provides quick-access storage for smaller equipment that would otherwise be difficult to locate inside the large main compartment.
The zipper is protected by overlapping fabric to reduce exposure to dirt and physical damage.
External Side Slip Pockets
Slip pockets on the exterior sides can carry equipment such as:
- Water bottles
- Canteens
- Compact equipment
- Frequently accessed accessories
These provide additional storage without using the main compartment.
Extensive MOLLE / PALS System
The Sentinel provides substantial MOLLE/PALS expansion across the front, sides, bottom, and hip belt.
This allows the backpack to be configured according to individual equipment requirements.
Upper Front MOLLE
Above the front-access opening is an attachment area with:
3 rows × 7 columns MOLLE/PALS
This can accommodate compatible utility, medical, or equipment pouches.
Front Access Panel MOLLE
The front zipper panel provides:
5 rows × 4 columns MOLLE/PALS
These loops can also interact with the side compression system.
Lower Front MOLLE
Below the front opening are separate left and right MOLLE areas with:
4 rows × 2 columns each
for compact external accessories.
Bottom MOLLE
The lower surface provides left and right attachment fields of approximately:
2 rows × 2 columns each
These can be used for smaller pouches or compatible external equipment.
Depending on the configuration, equipment such as sleeping bags or sleeping mats can also be secured around the lower portion of the pack.
Large Side MOLLE Fields
Each side provides a substantial:
6 rows × 5 columns MOLLE/PALS field
for larger expansion pouches.
Compatible side pouches can significantly increase the overall carrying capacity of the Sentinel.
For example, Zentauron combat side pouches can be mounted here to expand the system beyond the standard 55-liter main-pack configuration.
Padded Heavy-Load Carry System
The Sentinel's harness is designed around extended load carriage rather than lightweight daypack use.
Padded Hip Belt
The padded hip belt is connected directly to the external frame so that a meaningful portion of the pack weight can be transferred to the hips.
The belt uses approximately:
1.6 in / 40 mm webbing
with a rugged polymer buckle.
A pull-forward adjustment system makes the hip belt easier to tighten under load.
Hip Belt Adjustment Range
Approx.:
31.5–47.2 in / 80–120 cm
MOLLE Hip Belt
Each side of the hip belt includes:
3 rows × 5 columns MOLLE/PALS
This allows small frequently accessed equipment to be positioned directly at waist level.
Possible accessories include:
- Small utility pouches
- Medical pouches
- Navigation equipment
- Snacks
- Other compact field gear
Padded Shoulder Straps
The padded shoulder straps are approximately:
2.8 in / 7 cm wide
to distribute load across a broader shoulder area.
Integrated load-lifter straps allow the upper part of the pack to be pulled closer to the body for improved load control.
Adjustable Sternum Strap
The sternum strap can be positioned along the shoulder harness and adjusted in length.
This adds stability during movement and helps keep the shoulder straps positioned correctly.
10L Detachable E&E / Daypack Lid
One of the defining features of the Sentinel is its removable 10-liter / 610 cu in lid.
Instead of functioning only as a top compartment, the lid can be removed from the main pack and converted into a completely independent small backpack.
This gives the user access to a compact secondary pack without carrying a separate daypack.
Independent 10L Backpack
The lid attaches to the Sentinel using four buckles.
Once removed, these attachment points accept the included shoulder straps, converting the lid into a small backpack.
The included straps can also serve as general-purpose securing straps when not being used as shoulder straps.
Potential contents include:
- Rain gear
- Maps
- Protective eyewear
- Navigation equipment
- Survival equipment
- Food
- Communications accessories
- Other essential gear
5 × 6 MOLLE Front
The removable lid provides:
5 rows × 6 columns MOLLE/PALS
for adding compatible pouches.
This allows the small 10-liter pack to be expanded or configured for a specific role.
Identification Panel
A hook-and-loop field measuring approximately:
2.0 × 3.9 in / 5 × 10 cm
provides space for:
- Name tape
- ID patch
- Unit identification
- Other compatible markings
Dual-Zipper Main Compartment
The removable pack's primary compartment uses a dual zipper for convenient access.
An additional smaller zippered compartment is located on the rear.
External Compression Cord
An elastic compression cord with cord locks is positioned around the removable lid pack.
This can be used to stabilize lightweight external gear or compress the pack's contents.
Armor-Compatible Design
The external-frame system makes the Sentinel particularly interesting for users who carry a plate carrier or protective vest.
Unlike many conventional packs, the Sentinel keeps more of the pack structure away from the armor.
This can:
- Reduce pressure on the lower plate edge
- Limit rubbing between backpack and armor
- Improve airflow
- Improve stability with heavier loads
Actual fit will depend on the specific body armor and user dimensions.
Durable Cordura® Construction
The Sentinel is manufactured from rugged Cordura®.
The fabric is treated with a water-repellent finish and a PU coating to improve resistance to moisture and demanding field conditions.
This provides weather resistance but should not be interpreted as making the entire backpack fully waterproof.

Mission Frontline Take
The Sentinel's defining feature is not simply that it holds 65 liters. There are plenty of packs in that size range.
What makes it different is the combination of external-frame load carriage, armor compatibility, modular expansion, and the removable 10-liter backpack.
The external frame makes particularly good sense for heavier loads. Instead of letting the entire load hang from the shoulder straps, the system is built around transferring weight into the hips — and the separation from the back can also be a real advantage when wearing a plate carrier.
The removable lid is another genuinely useful feature. Once camp or a larger equipment position is established, the main rucksack can stay behind while the 10-liter pack carries the essentials.
That makes the Sentinel suitable for users who need one system to handle both heavy sustainment loads and short-duration movement without packing a separate daypack.
For military, tactical, hunting, or demanding trekking applications where modularity and heavy-load capability matter more than minimal pack weight, the Sentinel is one of Zentauron's most capable backpack systems.
