Modular rescue and EMS backpack for first responders, event medical teams, technical rescue units, and civilian emergency-service organizations.
The Zentauron HVO Rescue Backpack — HVO stands for “Helfer vor Ort,” or local first responder — is designed for emergency personnel responsible for the initial treatment, stabilization, and transport preparation of injured patients.
Unlike the more military-oriented ZFR system, the HVO is built around civilian EMS and rescue applications, including event medical services, mountain rescue, high-angle rescue, and water-rescue organizations.
Its narrow backpack profile can be expanded with optional horizontal and vertical HVO side pouches, while extensive MOLLE/PALS webbing allows the system to be configured around very different rescue roles.
Made in Germany.
Designed for Civilian EMS & Rescue
The HVO is intended for a broad range of emergency-service applications.
Potential users include:
- First responders
- EMS personnel
- Event medical teams
- Mountain rescue teams
- High-angle rescue personnel
- Water-rescue organizations
- Search-and-rescue teams
- Volunteer emergency organizations
- Technical rescue personnel
The modular design allows the same backpack platform to be adapted as operational requirements change.
Expandable Medical Loadout
Despite its relatively narrow profile, the HVO can be expanded considerably using compatible accessories.
Optional components include:
- HVO Horizontal Side Pouch
- HVO Vertical Side Pouch
- HVO Hip Belt
- Internal medical organizers
- Radio pouches
- HVO Intervention Pouch
- Additional MOLLE accessories
Depending on the configuration, additional equipment such as external medical equipment, rope bags, or other specialist rescue gear can also be integrated with compatible attachment systems.
DIN 13155-Oriented Configuration
According to Zentauron, the HVO can be configured together with the compatible horizontal and vertical HVO side pouches to carry the equipment required for a DIN 13155-oriented rescue loadout.
This makes the system particularly relevant for German and European rescue organizations that structure their equipment around standardized first-aid and emergency-response inventories.
Important: The empty backpack itself is not a DIN 13155 medical kit. Compliance depends on the specific medical contents and complete configuration used by the organization.
Fully Modular Interior
The interior is designed around hook-and-loop-mounted organization modules.
Compatible Zentauron components can include:
- Mesh organizer pouches
- Divider modules
- Elastic loop modules
- Internal equipment pouches
- Other hook-backed organizers
This allows individual equipment layouts to be created for different teams and rescue disciplines.
Instead of requiring every organization to use the same fixed internal arrangement, modules can be repositioned according to operational needs.
Document Compartment
A dedicated document compartment is integrated into the inside of the backpack lid.
It can accommodate items such as:
- Clipboard
- Patient documentation
- Checklists
- Forms
- Reference material
- Mission paperwork
This keeps administrative material separate from the main medical equipment.
Reflective MOLLE / PALS Webbing
The modular attachment webbing used on the HVO rescue series incorporates reflective material to improve visibility in low-light environments.
This is particularly useful for civilian emergency-service and rescue organizations operating:
- At night
- Along roads
- At accident scenes
- At outdoor events
- In poor visibility
The reflective construction is intended to support the high-visibility requirements commonly encountered in civilian rescue organizations.
Extensive MOLLE Expansion
External MOLLE/PALS webbing allows additional equipment to be attached directly to the backpack.
Depending on the configuration, this can include:
- Medical pouches
- Radio equipment
- Intervention pouches
- Utility pouches
- Rescue accessories
- Specialized equipment holders
- Side pouches
This allows the HVO to grow with the mission rather than requiring a completely different backpack whenever the equipment requirement changes.
Padded Carry System
Additional padding is positioned around the upper back / shoulder area for improved carrying comfort.
A second padded section is located around the hip area.
This area is designed to accept the optional HVO Hip Belt, which can help transfer part of the backpack load from the shoulders to the hips.
The hip-belt system can also provide additional mounting space for equipment such as:
- Radio pouch
- HVO Intervention Pouch
- Other compatible accessories
HVO Hip Belt sold separately.
Narrow Backpack Profile
One of the strengths of the HVO is its relatively slim main backpack design.
This can be useful for:
- Moving through confined areas
- Technical rescue environments
- Climbing or mountain rescue
- Crowded event environments
- Vehicle-based EMS operations
Additional capacity can then be added only where required through side pouches and external modules.

Medical Equipment Notice
The HVO is an equipment carrying and organization platform.
The backpack itself does not provide medical treatment capability and does not by itself constitute a DIN-compliant medical kit. Operational capability depends on the installed medical supplies, equipment, configuration, and appropriately trained personnel.
Mission Frontline Take
The HVO is basically the civilian rescue counterpart to Zentauron's military-oriented ZFR system.
Its biggest strength is that it does not lock an EMS team into one permanently sewn internal layout. The hook-and-loop interior means the organization can be rebuilt for event medicine, mountain rescue, technical rescue, water rescue, or general first-response use.
The narrow base pack is also a smart concept. Instead of starting with an oversized backpack, you can keep the core system relatively streamlined and add horizontal or vertical side pouches only when the required medical inventory demands more capacity.
We also like the reflective MOLLE webbing. On civilian rescue equipment, visibility can be just as important as modularity, particularly at road accidents, nighttime operations, or large events.
For organizations looking for a German-made modular EMS backpack that can evolve with different rescue roles, the HVO offers significantly more flexibility than a conventional fixed-layout medical backpack.
