This is about as uncomplicated as field equipment gets — and that's part of why we like it.

There is nothing to inflate, no valve that can fail, and no setup process. Unfold it when you need a sleeping surface and fold it back together when you're done.

The ability to use it as a seat or kneeling pad is also surprisingly useful during field use. You don't always need a complete sleep setup, but having insulation between yourself and cold or wet ground during a break can make a noticeable difference.

At only around 1.2 lb, it is easy to add to a camping, vehicle, emergency, or field kit.

Keep in mind: at approximately 0.2 inches thick, this is a minimalist military-style mat rather than a thick recreational sleeping pad. If maximum cushioning is the priority, a thicker inflatable or foam mat will be more comfortable.
