Pair of high-capacity backpack side pouches adding approximately 28 liters of external storage for lightweight, bulky field gear such as insulation layers, tarps, and other compressible equipment.

The Zentauron Batwing Pouches are designed to expand tactical backpacks that use side compression straps.

Supplied as a pair, the Batwing system adds approximately 28 liters / 1,709 cu in of total storage, making it particularly useful for bulky but relatively lightweight equipment that would otherwise consume valuable space inside the main backpack.

According to Zentauron, the concept was developed around requirements from long-range reconnaissance users, with the attachment system optimized especially for items such as cold-weather clothing, shelter material, and other lightweight field equipment.

Made in Germany.

28 Liters of Additional Backpack Capacity

The pair provides approximately:

28 L / 1,709 cu in total capacity

or approximately:

14 L / 854 cu in per pouch

This makes the Batwing system especially useful for carrying bulky items such as:

  • Cold-weather clothing
  • Insulation layers
  • Rain gear
  • Tarps
  • Shelter material
  • Lightweight sleeping equipment
  • Camouflage equipment
  • Other compressible field gear

The Batwing Pouches are primarily intended for lighter equipment rather than dense, heavy loads.

Side Compression-Strap Mounting

Instead of relying on a conventional MOLLE attachment system, the Batwing Pouches use sewn webbing channels along the sides.

The backpack's existing compression straps are routed through these attachment points to secure the pouch against the pack.

This makes the system suitable for backpacks that:

  • Have side compression straps
  • Support external side-load attachment
  • Provide enough vertical mounting space

The compression straps help pull the pouch and its contents tightly against the main backpack.

Designed for Lightweight, Bulky Gear

Because the Batwing system is suspended primarily through the backpack's compression straps, Zentauron recommends it especially for lower-density equipment.

Good applications include:

  • Jackets
  • Insulated clothing
  • Tarps
  • Ponchos
  • Lightweight shelter equipment
  • Other compressible gear

For very heavy equipment, a dedicated structural MOLLE side pouch may be the more appropriate choice depending on the backpack.

Top-Loading Access

Each pouch is loaded primarily from the top.

A zipper running approximately 50% around the pouch provides broad access while keeping the design simple and secure.

This allows the pouch to open far enough for larger soft equipment without requiring a complete clamshell opening.

Rubber Zipper Pulls

Rubber Pulls on the zipper sliders improve grip and make the compartments easier to operate while wearing gloves.

Sentinel Backpack Expansion

The Batwing Pouch Set is especially well suited to the Zentauron Sentinel External Frame Rucksack.

The Sentinel provides approximately:

65 L / 3,966 cu in

in its standard maximum configuration.

Adding the Batwing Pouch Set increases total capacity to approximately:

93 L / 5,675 cu in

That represents an additional 28 liters of external storage without replacing the main backpack.

The Sentinel's existing side compression straps can be used to mount the Batwing Pouches.

  • 2 × Zentauron Batwing Pouches

Backpack, compression straps, clothing, shelter equipment, and other accessories are not included unless specifically stated.

When used with the Zentauron Sentinel, the required side compression straps are already part of the Sentinel backpack system.

Compatibility Note

The Batwing Pouches require a backpack with suitable side compression straps and sufficient vertical mounting space.

Because the attachment concept relies on those straps rather than a standard MOLLE interface, compatibility with third-party backpacks should be checked individually.

Mission Frontline Take

The Batwing system is a smart way to increase capacity when the problem is bulk rather than weight.

Cold-weather layers, rain gear, and tarps consume huge amounts of backpack space despite weighing relatively little. Moving those items into external 14-liter side pouches frees the main compartment for denser equipment, food, water, electronics, or mission gear.

On the Sentinel, the difference is substantial: 65 liters becomes approximately 93 liters without changing the core rucksack.

The tradeoff is that these are not intended as heavy-load side pouches. Their compression-strap attachment makes much more sense for soft, lightweight equipment than for ammunition, water, or other dense loads.

For Sentinel users — or anyone with a compatible compression-strap backpack — who needs a major increase in volume for bulky field gear, the Batwing Pouch Set is an extremely useful modular expansion.
